Model Essay #1:

The internet is viewed as an excellent means of communication by many. However, there are others who would argue that it is actually destroying our communication skills.

The internet has become a widely used tool for communication in today's society. While many people believe that it enhances our ability to connect with others, others argue that it is detrimental to our communication skills. In this essay, both perspectives will be examined before presenting my opinion.

On one hand, supporters of the internet argue that it has revolutionized the way we communicate, providing instant access to a wide range of information and enabling people to connect with others across the globe. Social media platforms, for example, have allowed individuals to maintain relationships and stay connected with friends and family regardless of geographical boundaries. Furthermore, email and messaging services have made it easier to communicate with colleagues and clients in a professional setting.

Conversely, critics of the internet argue that it is eroding our communication skills by promoting shallow and impersonal interactions. They assert that the reliance on digital communication has led to a decline in face-to-face conversations, empathy, and active listening. In addition, the abundance of abbreviations and emoticons in online communication has been criticized for promoting a lack of linguistic precision and emotional depth.

In my opinion, while the internet has undoubtedly transformed the way we communicate, its impact on our communication skills is not entirely negative. It is true that digital communication has its limitations, but it also offers numerous benefits, such as facilitating connections with people from diverse backgrounds and providing a platform for global collaboration.

In conclusion, while the internet has its drawbacks in terms of communication, its overall impact is a complex mix of positive and negative effects. It is crucial for individuals to be mindful of their online interactions and strive to maintain a balance between digital and traditional forms of communication.

Model Essay #2:

The internet is viewed as an excellent means of communication by many. However, there are others who would argue that it is actually destroying our communication skills.

The internet has become a dominant force in modern communication, with many regarding it as an invaluable tool for staying connected. However, there is a growing concern that it is undermining our communication skills. This essay will explore both perspectives before presenting my own viewpoint.

Proponents of the internet argue that it has greatly improved our ability to communicate by providing numerous platforms for interaction. Social media, for instance, allows individuals to share their thoughts, experiences, and ideas with a wide audience, fostering connections and networks that would have been otherwise impossible. Additionally, online messaging and video call services have facilitated real-time communication, enabling people to stay in touch regardless of geographical distances.

On the other hand, critics contend that the internet is detrimental to our communication skills. They argue that the prevalence of digital communication has led to a decline in face-to-face interaction and interpersonal skills. Moreover, the convenience of online communication has resulted in a lack of nuance and depth in our interactions, with many people resorting to brief, impersonal messages rather than engaging in meaningful conversations.

In my view, the internet has indeed revolutionized the way we communicate, but it has also had negative implications for our interpersonal skills. The ease of sending a quick text or email has led to a reduction in the quality of our interactions, as genuine connection and understanding often require more than just digital exchanges.

In conclusion, while the internet offers unparalleled convenience and connectivity, it has undeniably impacted our communication skills. It is essential for individuals to recognize the drawbacks of excessive reliance on digital communication and make conscious efforts to engage in meaningful face-to-face interactions to maintain and enhance their communication skills.
