Model Essay #1:

People in the past used to be more dependent on one another, whereas nowadays they lead a more independent life. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the past, people relied heavily on one another for various aspects of their lives, such as farming, hunting, and building shelters. However, in present times, individuals tend to lead more independent lives due to technological advancements and social changes. I strongly agree with the notion that modern society promotes independence over interdependence.

Firstly, technological advancements have significantly reduced our reliance on others. For instance, in the past, people depended on each other for transportation, communication, and even basic household chores. However, with the invention of automobiles, smartphones, and household appliances, individuals have become more self-sufficient. This has led to a shift towards independence in various aspects of life.

Moreover, societal changes, such as the emphasis on individualism and personal freedom, have also contributed to the trend of leading more independent lives. In the past, communities were tightly knit, and people relied on one another for emotional and financial support. However, in modern society, there is a greater emphasis on personal achievement and self-reliance, leading individuals to prioritize their independence over interdependence.

Furthermore, globalization has opened up opportunities for individuals to pursue their goals independently. With the ease of travel and access to global markets, people are no longer bound by geographical limitations, allowing them to explore and pursue their ambitions without being heavily reliant on others.

In conclusion, the shift towards independence in modern society can be attributed to technological advancements, societal changes, and globalization. While interdependence was crucial in the past, the current trend towards independence reflects the changing dynamics of society. Therefore, I strongly agree that people nowadays lead more independent lives compared to the past.

Model Essay #2:

People in the past used to be more dependent on one another, whereas nowadays they lead a more independent life. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the past, people relied on each other for various aspects of their lives, and this interdependence was crucial for survival. In contrast, modern society's emphasis on individualism and self-reliance has led to a decline in the reliance on others. While it is true that technological advancements have enabled greater independence, I believe that interdependence still plays a significant role in people's lives today.

Firstly, it is important to recognize that despite technological advancements, human relationships and connections remain vital for emotional and social well-being. In today's fast-paced world, people still rely on each other for emotional support, companionship, and collaboration. The importance of interpersonal relationships cannot be overlooked, and individuals continue to seek and provide support from and to others.

Furthermore, there are numerous instances in contemporary society where interdependence is evident. In the workplace, collaboration and teamwork are essential for achieving common goals. Similarly, in family units, cooperation and support from family members are crucial for managing household responsibilities and nurturing children. These examples highlight the continued significance of interdependence in various aspects of modern life.

Moreover, in times of crisis or adversity, people often come together and rely on each other for assistance and support. This was evident during the recent global pandemic, where communities rallied together to help those in need, demonstrating the enduring importance of interdependence in society.

In conclusion, while technological advancements have undoubtedly promoted independence, interdependence continues to be a fundamental aspect of human existence. Emotional support, collaboration in the workplace, and community resilience during challenging times all underscore the enduring relevance of interdependence in modern society. Therefore, I disagree with the notion that people nowadays lead a more independent life compared to the past, as interdependence remains a significant and indispensable part of human interaction.
